More Singing Opportunities!

Ahhh, last night I took part in a new format cabaret, presented by Applause Musicals Society. It was awesome! We sang down at the Arts Club Backstage Lounge - the cabaret was titled "Showtunes! Year by Year: 1956", and we sang music from musicals released in 1956. It was really well done, and we had a great turn out.

AND, because of the people involved, I now have a new opportunity to sing! One of the other singers leads a small group of singers, and she asked if I would like to be a part of her group. It sounds fantastic - it's just a small group, performing songs with amazing harmonies, one voice per part, all acappella. This is something new for me and I'm so excited for my first rehearsal. I picked up the music today after work, and it's going to be so awesome! Tricky and challenging, but, well, what good would it be if something doesn't challenge you?

"Supernatural" Audition!

It feels so good auditioning for things other than commercials. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy those ones, too, but there's something about getting sides, developing your character, and getting to act! Today marks another first, too. It was my first audition for Coreen Mayrs and Heiki Brandstatter. Oh, and my first time over to Lions Gate Studios. The audition itself went fine. I didn't get the sides until I got there, but there were only a few sentences, and I got there in plenty of time to go over them, and to develop something. Even if I'm not right for this character, I'm glad to have gotten the chance to audition for them. I hope this leads to more down the road!

"88 Minutes" Audition!

Woweeee. Yesterday, late afternoon, I got a call from my agent saying she has a "very interesting audition" for me... for a movie... with Al Pacino... and my scene would be with him! It was for a very emotional scene in the feature film "88 Minutes", where I had to react to a speech given by Al Pacino. So I went to the audition today, and TOTALLY ROCKED! It was what I consider to be a very hard audition - a very emotional scene, with very little lead up into it. In fact, it was "slate your name, and go right into it". We had to react to the last few sentences of the speech. But I totally got into it. It felt awesome! At the end of it, the casting director even gasped, "Aw!"

I feel so great to audition for a movie, and even greater that the audition went so well. I really have no indication, though, of what they're looking for. But I'm just elated that I had a great audition. It could be tricky getting this part, though, as they're also casting a mom & dad for my character. I always have trouble getting cast when there's family members involved. But no matter - I left with the knowledge that I prepared my ass off, performed my best, my best was "on", and that's all I can ask for.

Cross your fingers for me. :) HOO-ahhhhh!!

Filmed "Baptist Hospital" Commercial

Yesterday I did another first! I booked "background" for a commercial. My agent called me to tell me the casting director wanted me for background, and after we discussed it, I decided to go ahead and do it. We did the filming yesterday, and I'm glad I took the job. The spot we were filming involved 2 principals, and 3 backgrounds. It all took place in a boardroom, so it wasn't like a mass background call or anything. Everyone who was there was there for a reason. Plus, one of the other actors there was a guy I worked with on Miss Saigon! We had a great time. Production was good, too. They seemed very organized, and we had some great laughs. And, after 3 hours, we were wrapped.

The commercial will air somewhere in the US, so again, I won't be able to see it. Unless someone out there happens to catch it, record it, and send me a copy. Hee hee. :)

Filmed "Citizen's Bank" Commercial

Yesterday was great! I arrived 10 minutes early, which the production crew thought was, "great!" The hair/make-up artist arrived, and loved my hair. I had worn it in a low ponytail for the auditions and wardrobe, but now had it down (so that they could do whatever they wanted with it). She liked it so much that she kept it just the way it was (just put a tiny bit of product in it to smooth it out).

Within an hour I was on set, and ready to go. As "the shopping girl", I was to play an exec, doing a lot of shopping. We filmed down at Leone, a fancy store in downtown Vancouver. All I had to do was walk out of the store with my bags of shopping in my hands. Seriously, I had 4 bags of shopping, and just walked out of the store. It wasn't really out the store, but you won't be able to tell that on film. Then we did one other shot, which was just me shopping in the store (clothes in hand, looking at other clothes).

Apparently they're filming a lot of these different scenarios. I hope, I hope, I hope I don't get cut during the edit. For 2 reasons! 1) Well, I want to be in the commercial, and 2) I want the buyout, of course.

Anyway, I was there for 3 hours in total (3 and 1/2 by the time everything was done), and had a great time shooting. The guys were great, too. I met the guy who wrote the commercial, and he was really great talking to. Well, all the folks involved were really great.

Yay! Booked a Commercial!

Alright!!!! I booked my first commercial! It's for Citizen's Bank, and it will air in the US only - the NE sector (excluding New York City). I auditioned as "the waitress", but booked as "the shopping girl". It's SOC, which is great! I have my wardrobe fitting tomorrow, and then we shoot on Sunday. And that's it!

I'm a little nervous, as this is totally new for me. No script, nothing... just show up on Sunday, and they'll tell me what to do. But I'm just a little nervous. I'm 98% excited, and 2% nervous. :)

Busy Busy Busy!

OK, in the last 7, consecutive business days, I've had 7 auditions and one callback! It's been awesome! I've also been put "on hold" for the callback I did. Most of these auditions have been for commercials, but there was one for print work, and one for a feature film. It is soooo great getting out there, and I'm very excited about the commercial that's on hold. I hope things work out - please keep your fingers crossed! :)
