Yesterday Turned Crazy

Yesterday started out as a normal day, but turned into a very busy one indeed! It started just before 8:30am - I was just on my way into work and I got a call from my agency. That in itself is weird - so early! Anyway, it was news of an audition. A big one. For one of the leads in a feature film. And if that weren't enough, it will be filming in Prague at the end of this month. How very cool! Unfortunately my passport has expired (just a couple months ago!), so should I get this gig, I will have to do a speedy request to get a new passport (as Canadian passports aren't renewable at this point).

I get to work, start checking the Gov't of Canada website about passport stuff, and it looks like starting Aug 15th, they will be doing renewals of passports. So that's cool - not so much paperwork to submit (but still a big wait time). I check my email and get the info for the audition, only the sides aren't there. Is something wrong with my email? I contact my agency and they resend the email right away and it works this time. 4 pages of script. I figure I can do some work in the 45 minutes I have after work before I go out to my singing rehearsal, then come back to it when I get home at afterwards.

Then my boss calls and says my husband (we work together) needs to go on a trip. We both roll our eyes, and I schedule his flights, making sure he's back in time for our plans for the next evening (it's a big event that's been planned for awhile). The bad news is that it meant he would have to leave yesterday afternoon, and won't be back until tonight. But if there are no flight delays, he will be able to make it to the big event!

Then at about 2:15pm, my agent calls with a new audition - for 4:00pm same day! I don't have my materials with me, but she says she'll fax them over to the casting director. This now means I have to leave work early. (Luckily I have that flexibility in my job.) I feel like a loser in the audition waiting room as I don't have my headshot and resume, but heave a little sigh of relief when I see the casting director with my faxed materials - especially when no big deal is made and she thanks me for coming in on such short notice. The session starts late, and I don't leave until 4:40pm. I have to head home to pick up my music for my rehearsal, then head back out to Vancouver. Rush hour makes the drive home quite a bit longer than normal and I don't get home until about 5:30pm. A quick change, a quick vocal warm-up, a quick grab of my music and audition sides, and I'm back out the door. No time to peruse my sides.

Luckily I always leave a little bit early to get places, so I arrive about 10 minutes early for my rehearsal. I stay in the car for those 10 minutes and figure out some things for my next day's audition. Then I head inside for 2 hours of singing. We finish and I head back home - arriving sometime around 10pm. I gather some laundry together so I have something appropriate to wear for to my audition, get a late dinner together, and finally sit down to really go over my sides. Can't stay up too late, though, because I start work at 8:30am again the next morning (as always!), and have to look camera ready.

And that is how what started as a regular day turned a little crazy. Whew! I'm tired just thinking about it. But I must wake myself up - I am at work now, and my audition is at the end of the day. Crossing my fingers that all goes well. :)

Sweet! My first voice work booking!

Woo hoo! I just got the call tonight from my agent… I booked my first voice work gig! I don’t have all the details yet, but I’ll be working next Tuesday (July 10th) for an hour to do the recording at the studio. It’s funny - the audition for this was back in April (with no callbacks), and we just got the word today. We just figured it got booked and that I didn’t get it.

Anyway, my agent explained to me that normally for voice work there isn’t an audition - that it just gets booked from your demo, so I’m super lucky to have gotten this job. I’m doubly happy because this is my first booking for this year. :D YAY!!!

I'm on "hold" for a commercial!

Woo hoo! I'm on hold for a commercial - it's some sort of toy commercial, where I'd be playing the mom (SOC). I've met the director a few times previously at other callbacks, but this is the farthest I've got with him. It was funny at the callback, actually. I walked into the room and recognized him right away, and he did the same thing, and he got up, came over with a big smile and a big hug! Like we were old friends. :) Shooting has already started, but goes until June 10th, so unless I get word of being "released", I still have a chance at booking. *crossing fingers*

"The Ovum Factor" audition

Crossed FingersToday I had a great audition for a short feature film! We didn't get too much information going into it, but I did my homework and created something from it. The producer was the one running the audition - it was my first time meeting him (Dana Pemberton) and he was sooo nice! Not only was it a really good chance to "act", but it was so validating because Dana was so positive about everything I was doing. He even extended my audition to have me do something a little extra. Nothing gross! No casting couch, if that's what you're thinking. ;) It was just to do the scenes in an entirely different way than I had prepared, and than what he had directed earlier. When it was time to say goodbye he said, "I hope we'll be talking soon," and, of course, in my head I'm thinking, "You do?? I do!!"

Now I'm just crossing my fingers. If I'm not right for this part, I feel SO good knowing I had a great audition. :)

BC Parks Campaign started

I filmed a commercial for BC Parks last year and it looks like the campaign has now started! I was on my way to my Verve rehearsal last night, and got stuck in traffic. I called Kate (our leader) to let her know I might be a little late and she said, "Well, it's not like we haven't already seen you today." I had no idea what she was talking about, and she said she saw me in the paper. When I got to her place, she gave me the page which had a nice big BC Parks print ad, and there I was! How cool! (We shot a commercial, too, so hopefully that will start airing, too!)

Tide to go - I'm a believer

OK, I've never quite been sure of this whole "Tide to go" thing. But this week, I became a believer. I had an audition, and it was one of those nicer, sunny days, so I decided to wear my khakis. I had to go to my regular day job first for a while, then go to my audition in the afternoon. When I got to work? There was this horrible black streak on the thigh of my pants! I didn't have time to go home for a change before my audition, and it was this really obvious black streak. After fretting for a bit, I picked up a Tide to go thingy, and started dabbing at the gross glob. At first, it just looked like it might have been spreading the blob, but it just looked that way because it was wet. Then, all of a sudden I looked down, the spot was dry, and the gross blog was gone! It really worked! Now the thingy is in my purse, so I won't have to worry if this happens again. I still don't know what the streak was or where it came from, but that's my story of how I became a believer.

No callback for Wendy's

Well, it's 3:45pm and I haven't heard anything for Wendy's, and the callbacks are tomorrow. Darn. But that's OK. I have a new and different audition scheduled for tomorrow now! It's for voice work, which is something totally new for me. I've done a lot of phone voice stuff, but never anything for film. I don't even know what the audition will be like. 8) It's another new adventure!

On another note - I'm addicted to facebook!
